Privacy Policy — Doczi AI

Last updated: 25 August 2026

Doczi AI is a PDF scanner and editor for Android. This page explains, in plain language, what the app collects, what it does not, and why.

The short version

  • Your documents stay on your phone. We never upload them.
  • If you use an AI feature, only the text from that document is sent for processing — never the file or the images.
  • Signing in is optional. Every scanning and editing tool works without an account.

What stays on your phone

Everything you scan, import, edit, sign or convert is stored in the app’s private folder on your device. That includes:

  • Scanned pages and PDF files
  • Page previews and folders you create
  • Your saved signature
  • Text extracted by the on-device text recognition

None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. It is removed when you delete a document or uninstall the app. We cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.

What we collect

If you sign in with Google (optional)

We receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We use this to recognise you across devices and to keep track of how many AI actions you have used. We do not receive your Google password or access anything else in your Google account.

If you enter your details during setup (optional)

Your name and phone number, if you provide them. We use these only to contact you about your account if something goes wrong. We do not sell this information and we do not send marketing messages to your phone number.

When you use an AI feature

The app reads the text off your document on your phone, then sends that text to our server, which passes it to Google’s Gemini API to generate the summary, translation or answer. The reply comes back to you.

The PDF file itself is never uploaded. Only the extracted text is sent, and only for the document you chose, at the moment you tap an AI button.

We do not store the text of your documents on our server. We keep a record that an AI request happened — the date, which feature, and how much text was involved — so we can count usage and estimate costs.

Google processes this text under their own terms. We use their paid API tier, which means your document text is not used to train Google’s models.

Usage and technical information

  • An anonymous device identifier, so free daily AI limits work even without an account
  • Which AI features you used and when
  • Whether you opened the Pro screen, started a purchase, or completed one
  • A push notification token, if you allow notifications

Purchases

Payments are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your card details. We only learn whether your subscription is active.

Permissions the app asks for

PermissionWhy
CameraTo scan documents. Images are processed on your phone.
Photos and mediaOnly files you pick yourself, to convert or import.
NotificationsOptional. To tell you about new features or account issues.
BiometricsOptional. Only to unlock the app, if you turn on App Lock.

The app does not request full storage access. It cannot see files you have not chosen to open.

Who we share with

We use these services, and nothing else:

  • Google Gemini API — processes document text for AI features
  • Google Play Services — sign-in, purchases, and notification delivery
  • Google ML Kit — document edge detection and text recognition, which run on your phone

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

How long we keep things

  • Documents: on your phone only, until you delete them
  • Account details: until you remove your account in the app
  • AI usage records: up to 12 months, then deleted
  • Document text sent to AI: not stored by us

Deleting your data

In the app, open Profile → Sign in → Remove account from this app. This disconnects your Google account and deletes what we hold about it.

You can also email [email protected] and we will delete your records within 30 days.

To delete your documents, delete them in the app or uninstall it. They are on your device, so removing the app removes them.

Children

Doczi AI is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

Traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS. You can lock the app itself with a fingerprint or PIN, and you can put a password on a PDF before you share it.

No system is perfectly secure. Documents stored on your phone are protected by Android’s app sandbox, which stops other apps from reading them, but a person with access to an unlocked phone can open the app unless you turn on App Lock.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app.
